Pivoting my pivot - focusing on AWS learning
Anyone else guilty of overcomplicating things for themselves?
Well, what a week it's been. After all the initial excitement of planning my transition into cloud consultancy, I managed to overwhelm myself by trying to do everything at once.
With help from Claude.ai, I'd mapped out an ambitious plan covering three main areas:
1. Marketing my new cloud consultancy venture
2. Learning AWS and getting certified
3. Building a net worth tracker as a real-world learning project
But you know what? Sometimes less is more. After a brief detour into over-engineering my learning process (let's not talk about my attempt to run solo 2-week sprints in Notion), I've decided to strip things right back.
For the next 90 days or so, I'm focusing ruthlessly on one thing: getting my AWS Solutions Architect certification. No building projects, minimal marketing - just learning.
The goal is that by spring, I'll be certified and ready to start offering architecture reviews that combine my new AWS knowledge with my existing development experience. That's when I'll be able to make an informed decision about whether this pivot is right for me.
(By the way, I ran all this past my current client and they're actually excited about me up-skilling in AWS since they use it heavily themselves.)
So, I'll be going quiet on here and LinkedIn while I focus on studying. I'm still around if you have questions, and I plan to resume these updates once I have something substantial to share.
Thanks for being part of this journey - even the messy bits!
John
